Where is Santa Right Now? Track Santa’s 2024 Christmas Flight with the NORAD Santa Tracker
As Christmas Eve 2024 unfolds, Santa Claus is on his magical journey from the North Pole, delivering gifts to children worldwide. For over 65 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has tracked Santa’s annual voyage using advanced technology and real-time updates.
Here’s everything you need to know about monitoring Santa this Christmas.
Where is Santa Right Now?
NORAD provides live updates on Santa’s current location using its interactive Santa Tracker map. Santa begins his flight at the North Pole, traveling southward along the Pacific rim. From there, he crosses continents, stopping in Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe.
After delivering billions of gifts, Santa visits Antarctica before heading to the Western Hemisphere, including South America, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States.
To track Santa in real-time, visit NORAD’s official Santa Tracker website or check updates on their Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube pages.

When Will Santa Be at Your House?
While NORAD tracks Santa’s route, they cannot predict the exact time he will visit individual homes. According to NORAD, Santa typically arrives between 9 p.m. and midnight on Christmas Eve, but only when children are asleep.
“Only Santa knows his route,” NORAD explains, adding, “We cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house. However, history shows he works tirelessly to deliver gifts to every child on time.”
How Does the NORAD Santa Tracker Work?
NORAD uses radar and satellite technology to monitor Santa’s journey. Their radar system, called the North American Warning System, includes 47 checkpoints across northern Canada and Alaska.
Once Santa takes off from the North Pole, satellites equipped with infrared sensors detect the heat from Rudolph’s glowing red nose, allowing NORAD to track his sleigh accurately.
Families can also call 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) to speak with NORAD operators and receive real-time updates about Santa’s location. Lines are open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. EST on Christmas Eve.
