Alexandre Pantoja Defends Flyweight Title with Stunning Submission Over Kai Asakura at UFC 310!
Pantoja Extends Dominance in the Flyweight Division
LAS VEGAS — Alexandre Pantoja showcased his unmatched grappling skills to successfully defend his UFC Flyweight Championship, submitting Kai Asakura in the second round at UFC 310. The event occurred before a raucous crowd of 18,648 at the T-Mobile Arena.
Facing the explosive former RIZIN bantamweight champion, Pantoja neutralized Asakura’s striking prowess by taking the fight to the ground. The Brazilian champion’s superior grappling ended Asakura’s hopes of becoming the first Japanese UFC champion dramatically.
“This is the UFC level, the highest level in the world,” Pantoja declared post-fight. “You think some Japanese fighter is going to come here and take my belt? No. When the Octagon is locked, this is my town, this is my city.”
Pantoja’s Grappling Shines in Round Two
After a competitive first round that saw Pantoja stymie Asakura’s explosive striking, the Brazilian turned up the pressure in the second.
Driving Asakura into the fence, Pantoja expertly took his back during a scramble and dragged the fight to the mat. Once there, the champion swiftly secured a rear-naked choke, forcing Asakura unconscious at the 2:05 mark.
The victory marks Pantoja’s third successful title defense since winning the belt in 2023 by defeating Brandon Moreno.

A Legacy in the Making
Pantoja (29-5) extended his winning streak to seven and recorded his fourth flyweight title fight victory with this win. While still behind UFC legend Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson’s record of 12 flyweight title fight wins, Pantoja isn’t shy about pursuing greatness.
“He [Johnson] retired this year, but I want to challenge him,” Pantoja said. “I’m the GOAT here. If he wants to prove he’s the GOAT, come back.”
What’s Next for Pantoja?
Although a fight with Johnson remains uncertain, several top contenders are waiting for their shot at the flyweight title. Kai Kara-France, Amir Albazi, and Brandon Royval stand as potential challengers for Pantoja’s next defense.
With his dominant performance at UFC 310, Pantoja continues to solidify his legacy as one of the greatest flyweights in MMA history.
