Walmart has issued a recall for more than 12,000 cartons of its Great Value Chicken Broth due to potential packaging issues that could pose health risks, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall affects 48-ounce cartons of chicken broth sold at 242 Walmart stores across nine states: Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
Reason for Recall
The recall involves approximately 12,138 cartons of chicken broth, which were pulled due to concerns over “potential packaging failures that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage.”
The recalled products carry a “best used by” date of March 25, 2026, and the UPC “007874206684.”
No illnesses related to the recalled product have been reported so far, but Walmart has advised consumers to discard the product or request a full refund as a precaution.

Walmart’s Response
A Walmart spokesperson stated:
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted product from the select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate.”
Although Walmart initiated the recall on December 11, 2024, the FDA only published the official notice on January 8, 2025.
What Consumers Should Do
