They stand as a beacon of hope, light, positivity, and inspiration for so many out there vying to make their mark with their work. Among them, one name that has always made headlines is Tysen Knight.
Who is Tysen Knight, you ask? Well, this incredible man who dons several hats on his head is a creative and empathetic soul who, in all these years, has carved a unique niche for himself, rising as a multifaceted professional and inspiring the next-gen through his purpose-driven work. Tysen has had a unique style rooted in pop and street art, something that has helped him stand distinctive. On one hand, where his art has captured the imagination of audiences all over the world; on the other hand, his philanthropic efforts have demonstrated a heart as big as his talent.
Since childhood, if anything that he felt the most inclined to was art and everything that breathed creativity. This early fascination drove him toward cartoons, inspiring him to pick up the airbrush and design on jeans. At the age of 15, he had already won his first national art competition, receiving the NAACP: ACT-SO Achievement Program Award of Merit. Later, his love for creativity and art expanded into filmmaking with his debut documentary, “The Art of Hustle: Street Art Documentary,” premiering in 2016. This film transformed him from a gallery artist to a street art sensation while also putting more light on the positive aspects of street art.
His documentary emerged as a great success, winning the Best Feature Film at the Oregon Documentary Film Festival in 2018. His love for filmmaking grew from there, and he did another acclaimed project titled “The Art of Hustle: Homeless Street Artist Documentary,” earning him the Best Director Award at the Marina Del Rey Film Festival in 2019. With a penchant for doing the unconventional every step of the way, he remained determined to move beyond traditional canvases. His murals, often displayed on walls and vacant buildings, transformed them into vibrant urban spaces, creating bold and thought-provoking artworks. For him, the city has become his canvas, allowing him to paint his visions for the world to see.
His compassionate soul has helped him receive more acclaim, inspiring him to always give back. His philanthropic work has uplifted and empowered lives through art and community initiatives. He contributed to “Habitat for Humanity” to build homes for the less fortunate. He prepared meals for people experiencing homelessness through “Midnight Mission.” He established “The Tysen Knight Scholarship Fund” to help aspiring artists pursue their dreams and launched the “Riverside County Office of Education partnership” program in California to mentor at-risk youth to encourage artistic self-expression and reduce dropout rates
All these philanthropic efforts earned Tysen Knight several accolades, including the Visionary Award, Artexpo New York, 2023 (Pier 36 NYC), Impact DOCS Award, 2018 (United States), Spotlight Award, Red Dot Miami, 2019 (Art Basel) and many others. For Tysen, art isn’t just a profession but a way to inspire generations and connect with them.
