Paul Danan, best known for his role as Sol Patrick on Hollyoaks, has passed away at the age of 46, according to a statement from his management, Independent Creative Management.
The statement read, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.”
Danan starred on Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001, portraying the fan-favorite character Sol Patrick, a rebellious yet lovable figure. He later gained further fame through appearances on Celebrity Love Island in 2005 and 2006, as well as Celebrity Big Brother in 2017.
Born and raised in Essex, Danan began acting at a young age, appearing in EastEnders as a child. He attended the prestigious Italia Conti drama school before joining Hollyoaks at the age of 19. After leaving the soap, his character Sol Patrick exited the show fleeing the village alongside Jess Holt.
In pursuit of a Hollywood career, Danan moved to Los Angeles, where he spent over three years. Reflecting on his time there, he admitted, “I was young, 22 or 23, trying to party and work. You can’t become a Hollywood star if you’re also partying.” Returning to the UK, he embraced reality TV to support himself financially.
Danan also launched a podcast, The Morning After With Paul Danan, from 2019 to 2023. His other credits included appearances on Celebrity Coach Trip and The Kevin Bishop Show.
The actor had openly discussed his struggles with addiction, revealing battles with cocaine and codeine and the financial toll of over £1 million spent on rehab. He also shared that he had overcome an obsession with disposable vapes after being hospitalized for pneumonia in 2023.

Danan’s management company expressed their condolences, stating, “His untimely departure will leave an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew him. We kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
Paul Danan will be remembered for his talent, resilience, and ability to connect with audiences through his work.
